November 12, 2011 Sharon Katz & The Peace Train
with special guest Abigail Kubeka

South Africa’s pulsating rhythms, rich harmonies, guitar-driven maskanda and mbaqanga melodies, and spine-tingling Zulu dance fuse with funky basslines, intricate drum patterns, Afro-jazz horn lines, and compelling lyrics to take you from ancient traditions to today’s unstoppable beat.

Nominated for the Grammy’s “Best World Music Album” for their first US release, the exhilarating, multicultural, South African band of Sharon Katz & The Peace Train helped Nelson Mandela usher in the ending of apartheid. Making history in 1992 with her 500-voice multiracial choir, Sharon then organized a courageous tour on board a train –The Peace Train – taking 150 musicians and her friends Ladysmith Black Mambazo across South Africa to spread their musical message of peace and unity in advance of Mandela’s election as the country’s President.

Discovered by Miriam Makeba when she was just 16, the now-legendary Abigail Kubeka will appear with Sharon Katz & The Peace Train to launch Double Take, a new CD they just recorded together in South Africa. Abigail Kubeka and Sharon Katz both grew up under the old apartheid regime and had to hide from the police to perform their music - Double Take shows that powerful voices can never be silenced.

April 14, 2012     The Makem & Spain Brothers

"The Makem Brothers with Mickey and Liam Spain are the definitive Irish folk singers of their generation." -New York Chronicle.

Not in the past 30 years has a group taken the international stage with such vocal power and stage presence, capturing the essence of their genre, while standing out as something truly unique. There are instrumental bands bringing Irish music down uncharted roads, moving it forward and keeping it living. But there is only one band that is driving Irish folk songs into the 21st century internationally. That band is the Makem & Spain Brothers.
